This kind of assignment was very interesting as we decided to get more creative and less on writing. During this experience, it was time-consuming as for me I had to plan things out to what I wanted the outcome. What I learned during it was that you need to have a backup plan just in case things don’t go out as you intended. For me, the illustration that I was working on came out as just as I plan and as for my podcast/audio, it was unintended. Originally it was supposed to be a video but there were technical difficulties that had to occur and it halted my progression for this assignment. It was exhilarating to do this kind of assignment and I wish that if I was in this class again have the opportunity to do it again.
The two links below will take you to the illustration and audio podcast of my two genres.
The reason why I choose to do an advertisement as one of my compositions is that advertisement is a good way to get your message across. If you look at the internet and tv network there are many advertisements you see, promoting a product or trying to convey a message to you everywhere you go there is an advertisement on taxis, subways, busses, and billboards. It is a good strategy to use especially if you want to get many people to view what you are promoting but there are some pro’s and cons when doing advertisements for example the way I’m promoting my idea through advertisement is something that you may be able to see on subway carts and bus stops but there are so many advertisements on them you either pay attention to at least one or two of the advertisements or you don’t look at them at all. When advertising something you must make it eye-catching, something that gets the people’s attention when they go uses the subway or bus that’s a major key when you’re dealing with other advertisements but also getting your message across. Getting your message across on a subway advertisement would be difficult because you have limited space on what you want to put on it, you can’t just explain your message that would be a paragraph long and put it on a subway advertisement board no one would read that, that’s why I made my advertisement with something visual. It shows the city that we are in and how it’s overcrowded with cars on one side and the other side showing fewer people but no cars and city building and roads underground and how we can expand out city underground providing new space for our city, and having a little text above saying the cities future that we get or need.
I think it was a great way to convey my message to average New Yorkers taking the bus or subway on their commute. As for my second composition, there were some complications and technical difficulties when creating it, originally it was supposed to be a video/documentary about space in the city and how it was limited but instead, I decided to change it and instead of a video/documentary I choose a sort of podcast. It was my third bright idea when trying to convey my message about the city to New Yorkers and future residence, the requirement was that how long should it be for your listeners not to get bored of you and leave? I try to make it a reasonable length, talking about my ideas about the city and how we can approve it also by making a podcast you are just able to listen to what I have to say while doing something at the same time, like walking or going to work. I think by doing this people will just listen to what I have to say instead or watch a four to five-length video of me just showing slide pictures and sitting uncomfortably during that duration, I think that people find it hard to pay attention to something that is educational and by just putting on headphones and listening they will be able to pay attention more easily.
